FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Mindfully Active Physio | Physio in Bishops Stortford
WHAT IS PHYSIOTHERAPY?
Traditionally, physiotherapy helps to restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. However, physiotherapy can also be utilised to enhance movement capability/efficiency whether you are injured or not.
WHY SHOULD I USE MINDFULLY ACTIVE PHYSIO?
It is really a matter of choice. You will find practitioners you click with and others you struggle to develop any rapport with. At Mindfully Active Physio I pride myself on taking the time to understand the aims of each individual.
I would recommend you utilise Mindfully Active Physio if you are looking for a physio service that is a little different. I offer a service with increased length of time for appointments, an interaction that focuses on the goals you want to achieve and integrate both physical and mindful strategies. If interested, give me a call/drop me an email and I'd be happy to discuss the process further.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MINDFULLY ACTIVE PHYSIO?
Prior to the session, I will discuss a brief overview of your goals/injury over the phone, and arrange a time and date for an appointment.
Upon initial assessment you will be asked about your reasons for utilising physio (injury, rehab, to become more efficient at a hobby, etc) and what your aims for the treatment will be. You will also be asked about your general health and may be asked some personal questions regarding your wellbeing. This allows me to fully understand the possible contributing factors to your current situation. All of this information is kept strictly confidential, with no data being shared.
We will then work through a physical assessment, which will primarily focus on how you move in various scenarios (movements specific to your individual needs). Typically I will also assess your range of movement, strength and various tests which contribute to the understanding of an injury.
We will then discuss a treatment plan that will clearly facilitate positive change in the journey towards your goals.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Most importantly, I would ask that you wear clothing that you are comfortable in. Coming prepared with shorts and a sports bra is ideal.
There may be a need to ask for you to remove certain items of clothing in order to observe your posture and identify swelling/bruising better. However, if you do not feel comfortable I will not pressure you to do so. Feeling comfortable in a 'medicalised' environment is very important to me.
CAN I USE MEDICAL/HEALTH INSURANCE?
Mindfully Active Physio is recognised with most major health insurance companies and can invoice these directly. If you are registered with a recognised health insurance provider, you will be asked for your membership/policy number and authorisation code for the course of treatments, along with any excess or treatment limitations.
You can see Mindfully Active Physio's recognised health insurance list by clicking here.
WHAT IF I HAVE TO CANCEL MY APPOINTMENT?
Mindfully Active Physio understand that life needs to be flexible at times and so you are able to cancel your appointment free of charge, as long as you provide a minimum of 24 hours notice. If you do not provide 24 hours notice you will be invoiced for a £40 "No-Show" fee.
As the number of service hours are limited, 24 hours allows someone else to book into your slot.
IS MINDFULLY ACTIVE PHYSIO REGISTERED WITH GOVERNING BODIES?
Mindfully Active Physio's practitioner, James Boyd, is registered with The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and The Health and Care Professionals Council. James is also a Silver Level Accredited practitioner with the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sport & Exercise Medicine.
HOW CAN I PAY FOR EACH SESSION?
If you are self-paying, Mindfully Active Physio accept all major credit/debit cards with no additional charge, as well as cash.
If you are using private health insurance, Mindfully Active Physio require an authorisation code and a policy number (if applicable).
Session prices can be found on the Prices Page.
HOW LONG DOES EACH SESSION LAST?
There are three options for length of appointment. The initial assessment session will last approximately 75 minutes. Following this, you can choose a treatment session time that best suits you and your diary, with either 60 or 30 minute sessions available.
IS THE BUILDING EASY TO ACCESS?
Mindfully Active Physio is situated at both The Barley Barn (Home of Akasha Wellness) at Wickham Hall and KORU Gym in Bishops Stortford. There is ample parking space directly outside both venues. Access to the Therapy Room is suitable for wheelchair users at both sites.
CAN I ASK FOR A CHAPEURONE?
Mindfully Active Physio sessions take place in an enclosed therapy room, which is great for patient confidentiality and privacy. Unfortunately there is no chaperone service provided. However, feel free to bring someone you know and trust if you wish to be accompanied throughout the session.
